EXO Kris’ Unique Style at the Korea-China Music Festival

Standard

EXO at Korea-China Music Festival on 25th of August, 2012

What caught my attention in this picture was Kris‘ gangsta style xD His unique headband stands out. I could not help but sing, “Freestyler…rock the microphone. Straight from the top of my dome. Freestyler…rock the microphone. Carry on with the freestyler…Yeah, straight from the top of my dome. As I rock, rock, rock, rock, rock the microphone,” by Bomfunk MC’s. Hahaha, and the person/main actor with the headphones in the actual music video for Freestyler is a friend of a friend of someone that went to my middle school, according to a few of my classmates.

However, when I take a closer look, I thought Kris‘ style was kind of like Tom Kaulitz‘s of my once-upon-a-time favorite German band, Tokio Hotel.

Tom Kaulitz of Tokio Hotel

I always found it amusing how Tom has this swag style, yet he plays the guitar. Moreover, when I saw the following awesome artwork of Kris by a fan, I remembered Bill Kaulitz, the lead singer of Tokio Hotel and Tom‘s twin.

Kris artwork by a fan
(Credit: To the rightful artist)

This is how I kind of imagine the rock star version of Kris to be like. I cringe when I see nail polish on guys >_< Bleh… That’s exactly what Bill does with his nails. Speaking of Tokio Hotel, I like their song “Monsoon.” I think it’s one of their best songs and the lyrics are really nice. I’ve listened to the German version as well, but the members of the group were really young when they made the music video for it. The following music video is the the English version of the song. Viewers can see both Bill (the lead singer) and Tom (the guy with a headband and cap) in this.

Running through the monsoon
Beyond the world
Til’ the end of time
Where the rain won’t hurt
Fighting the storm
Into the blue
And when I lose myself I’ll think of you
Together we’ll be running somewhere new

Through the monsoon
Just me and you

Of course, Kris is 100,000,000 times cooler. Sadly, the members of Tokio Hotel let fame get to their head =( A man’s loyalty is tested when he has everything. I still like their music, though.

In contrast to what I thought of Kris‘ style in the picture, many fans were surprised to see the resemblance between Kris and Naruto:

(Credit: To the rightful owner)

As well as Kris and Kakashi Sensei, who also happens to be a character from Naruto:

Kris as Kakashi Sensei of Naruto…all he needs is a black mask
(Credit: Cielokyn)

What I find amusing about Kris and Kakashi Sensei is that they both love to read books. The difference is the genre of books they read. Kris likes to read inspirational and self-improvement books, whereas Kakashi Sensei likes to read romantic novels while taking a break from his heroic endeavors xD

Kakashi Sensei reading his romantic novel…hahaha! xD

There are probably several Anime characters that look like Kris. Sometimes he looks like: Ichigo from Bleach, Kyo from Fruits Basket (this was such a cute Anime and I can totally see Kris play the role of Kyo!), Light from Death Note, and the list can go on. For now, let’s just say any Anime character with blonde hair and fierce eyebrows looks like Kris. What will happen when Kris dyes his hair some other color? I’m sure new Anime characters will be compared to him xD

Kris and Kyo of Fruits Basket

Kris and Kyo also carry their bags the same way and wear a bracelet xD

I hope Kris is spending time with the members of EXO-K and other people in SME, while the members of EXO-M are at home. I have a two week break at the moment and some of my friends and I have made plans to explore places around the city and perhaps attend some art exhibitions. I’m keeping myself busy so I don’t fall homesick. My parents came for just a few days and left last week. It was a really short stay. I wish they had stayed longer, but it’s alright. I look forward to seeing them for the big break iA. Kris should know that many of his fans are also living away from parents ^^ All of us… hwaiting!!!

Most Moving Japanese Drama: 1 Litre of Tears aka 1 Litre no Namida

Standard

1 Litre of Tears

Title: 1リットルの涙
Title (romaji): 1 Litre no Namida
Also Known As: Ichi Rittoru no Namida / One Litre of Tears / A Diary with Tears
Genre:
School, Romance, Family
Starring: Erika Sawajiri, Hiroko Yakushimaru, Ryo Nishikido, Takanori Jinnai
No. of Episodes: 11
Producer: Satoko Kashikawa
Broadcast Network: Fuji Television
Broadcast Period: October 11, 2005 – December 20, 2005

This is perhaps one of the most moving dramas that I have ever seen. I literally cried in the last few episodes and ended up using an an entire tissue box. This drama may make you cry one litre of tears or perhaps even more. I watched this drama in the beginning of 2010 and it has changed my whole perspective on life and it made me incredibly thankful for whatever I had. I recommend this drama to everyone. However, please note that some people might find this drama depressing. A lot of my friends were scared to watch it because they felt that they would end up crying. My mum had a hard time getting through the first episode. Interestingly, two of my uncles (from my mum’s side of the family) and their whole families have sat and watched the drama. They were moved and remembered the drama very well. One guy from my uni. watched it because I had mentioned it =P He was moved by the drama too. Nevertheless, I was glad to have watched it until the very end. Although I knew that the ending of the drama would be sad, this drama has a lesson and that is to never take anything for granted. It makes you appreciate life more.

In case one is wondering how my uncles watch East Asian dramas, both of them are Marine Merchants and are captains of their ships. They sail around the world and visit South Korea, Japan, and China frequently. The people they meet on their trip often recommend them dramas. I was very surprised when I found out that one of my uncles was a huge fan of East Asian dramas. We all came to the conclusion, “It runs in the family…” Hahaha! xD I love my uncles. They’re very down-to-earth, funny, and cool! ^^ Anyhow, the following information on the plot/synopsis of the drama gives one a better understanding of what to expect.

The Plot/Synopsis

This drama is based on the real-life struggles of a 15-year-old girl named Aya who suffered from an incurable disease, but lived life to the fullest until her death at 25. The script is based on the diary Aya kept writing until she could no longer hold a pen. The book that later followed entitled One Litre of Tears has sold over 1.1 million copies in Japan alone.

Fifteen year old Ikeuchi Aya was just a normal girl, soon to be high school student and daughter of a family who works at a shop that makes tofu. As time passed, unusual things started happening to Aya lately. She started falling down often and walking in a strange way. Her mother Shioka, takes Aya to see the doctor, and he informs Shioka that Aya has spinocerebellar degeneration – a rare disease where the cerebellum of the brain gradually deteriorates to the point where the victim cannot walk, speak, write, or eat. A cruel disease, as it does not affect the mind in the least. How will Aya react when told about her disease? And how will Aya live from now on? — Wikipedia

Memorable Scene

The drama had many memorable scenes. This was one of them in which Aya gave out a speech to her class. I loved how Aya was so strong. On a random note, the lead actor in this drama, Ryo, is a member of a popular J-Pop boy group called NEWS. Although he is in a pop group, he has the voice of a rock star xD

Fan-Made MVs

I like the following two fan-made MVs:

  • Fan-Made MV 1: Keep Holding On

  • Fan-Made MV 2: Fallen

If you’re not afraid to shed some tears, then this drama is a must-watch. To watch the drama with English subtitles: 1 Litre of Tears on DramaCrazy.Net

Favorite Songs by Jamiroquai

Standard

The following song, “Virtual Insanity,” is by Jamiroquai and is a song that one of my best friends and I used to listen to on our iPod while riding on the bus to school. It’s about the technology we use today, such as the Internet. It’s like we are creating a world where technology is taking over and things that were once normal are fading away. I think the lyrics pinpoint that technology has both pros and cons, but focuses more on the cons. Of course, the lyrics can be interpreted in several different ways and songs may have more than one meaning.

Love Foolosophy” is another great song by Jamiroquai. The meaning of the song is very straightforward. Nevertheless, I’ve been listening to this on repeat.

Jamiroquai‘s “(Don’t) Give Hate A Chance” is about how the world should overcome differences and love one another. Stop the wars and end the hate. The lyrics of the song are not mentioned in the video, but they can be found here: Song Meanings.

I like catchy songs with meanings. One can tell that I listen to a wide genre of music ^_~

Of Old Songs and Adapting…

Standard

Just a song that I used to listen to back in my freshman year of my undergrad. days. I actually discovered it through a friend. It’s called, “Everything You Want” by Vertical Horizon. There are A LOT of songs that I used to listen to before I got into K-Pop. When I listen to those old songs now, there is a sudden rush of nostalgia.

Sometimes I feel like I was someone else when I listen to old songs on my iPod or music CDs on my Sony CD player (remember those days? Hahaha, I always envision myself sitting in my high school homeroom class back in 8th and 9th grade just listening to music and working on whatever assignment that I needed to work on. All the other students would do the same). Time flies and things change. I feel like I’ve moved on since then. It’s strange when I think about how I got into K-Pop and left that other world behind. I guess the fact that I move around a lot gives me different experiences in life too.

It’s hard to adjust to places in the beginning… Sometimes I try to find a reason for being here. I just think it’s a little strange how I got into East Asian entertainment in a place where hardly any East Asians were, which was my previous uni., and now I’m surrounded by several East Asians. I don’t know why. It’s like I was being prepared. I believe that if I was not into East Asian culture, I would have had an extremely difficult time adjusting here. I’ve had friends of all nationalities in high school, but we were all third-culture-kids or global nomads and hence, we all understood one another and pretty much had our own global culture. However, it has been a different scenario ever since I graduated from high school ’cause I had to learn how to adapt to an environment where people were not third-culture-kids or global nomads. The same can be said about here too. Nevertheless, the fact that I have become eager to learn everything about the Far East and the culture of the people around me, I guess I’m content with it.

I’m still trying to figure out something, though…

P.S. The song above is about being friend-zoned…or fan-zoned. Hahaha, just kidding about the last part =P I’m stating this in case one was interested in knowing the meaning behind the song ^^’

Kris Drawing in Progress and etc.

Standard

Still in progress…even though I’m quite busy!

This is what I have drawn so far. Please note…this is far from complete.

My Drawing of Pre-Debut Kris xD

I’m questioning whether I should have the dragon wings there. I guess they should look alright once I add the details. The hardest thing for me to draw are hands >_< By the way, this is just the FIRST drawing. I have a few other drawings that I plan to do. I hope I wrote Wu Yi Fan correctly in traditional Chinese. I tried =P Do you think my handwriting is nicer than his in both English and Chinese? xD

I really liked his “cowboy” style. It’s very unique and I feel like it’s something that brought out his individuality. The clothes we wear are often a form of self-expression and I think Kris had a pretty good fashion sense before he debuted. Sadly, we do not get to see much of this individuality anymore due to SM Entertainment’s stylists. I like his sophisticated style too, but then again…we all know how Kris‘ style was like before debut =P His hair, by the way, reminds me of one of the hairstyles I used to have back in late 2007. I have a picture of it – it’s one of my favorites and is one of the few pictures of me in which I am not smiling.

This is a rare pic. that I am uploading:

Me back in 2007

On a random note…now that NU’EST visited my university, their song, “Action” is stuck in my head… hahaha! The people that I know are very lucky to have received hugs and even have a small chat with them. The pictures and videos of my friends with them are everywhere on my Facebook xD Great way to make me feel like I missed out =P Just kidding! I’m happy for them ^^

I like how NU’EST have pretty meaningful songs. I’m currently listening to this on repeat:

EXO’s Kris and Fortune Cookies

Standard

Kris is definitely mastering the art of fan service… =P

“You are beautiful!” written by Dragon Prince Kris
(Credit: To the rightful owner)

What a lucky fan! It is really sweet that he wrote this. Kris seems like a nice guy ^^ This message was actually received by a fan at the SMTOWN Welcome Party on the 17th of August, in which Kris, Lay, Suho, and Chanyeol were part of.

You are beautiful too, Kris xD
(Credit: As mentioned in the pic.)

I think Kris should be cast in a fantasy movie in which he is a dragon warrior or prince. He has the look. I don’t know why there are people that always call Kris names and think he should be one of those snobby heartless guys or some kind of cunning player that goes around breaking people’s hearts from the books that many people read or the movies they watch >:( It’s terrible! I guess good-looking people get stereotyped like this. Not every good-looking person is like that! Trust me…I know. Even though I don’t know Kris personally and neither does any other fan of his, for some reason beneath the tough image that he often wears, I think he is really innocent and child-like. I also think he is very good at acting…hahaha!

Besides this, is Kris practicing his handwriting? =P

Oooh, do you want to know what message I got in my fortune cookie…the first one I had this year back in February when I came to Australia? I got this:

My fortune cookie message back in February 2012

I kept this in my purse for quite some time. This is before we found out that KrisEXO symbol is a dragon =P It should be noted that I don’t believe in the messages found in fortune cookies. Hahahaha. To be honest, not much has really happened this year except for moving to another country and gaining some new experience by being surrounded by a lot of East Asians, which I did not expect at all.

In fact, I did not get the opportunity to meet the K-Pop group, NU’EST, who came to my university yesterday. Can you believe it? They came to my university out of all the universities in this country! This was the CLOSEST opportunity that I had in meeting a K-Pop group for the first time in my life, but I wasn’t able to since I had assignments to work on. All I had to do was just walk for 15 minutes to the place they were at. My brother told me that there was a huge line of girls waiting outside one of the university buildings in which NU’EST was having an event in, while he was walking by. Some of the people that I know got the opportunity to take photos and shake hands with the members. NU’EST is a great group, but they are not my favorite. Besides, I think I would be happier if Kris was the first K-Pop star that I get to meet iA xD Of course, this doesn’t mean that I’m going to pass up the opportunity of meeting another K-Pop group if I ever get the chance. There really is no such thing as luck. It’s more about destiny. I’m just going with the flow and being thankful for whatever I have.

Oh, and I did not register with anything to win an iPad =P

P.S. Some of my friends are going to the SM Auditions next week. I’m curious about seeing the whole process of recruiting trainees. MAYBE NEXT TIME! =P Also, one of my Chinese friends was told by his fellow Chinese friends to make up stuff about his family background when speaking to the judges =P I wonder if it will work. If it does, then he should be cast as an actor xD

Fake Celebrity Prank

Standard

This made me LOL so hard! Can’t believe SO many people in New York got fooled! xD

The description under the video as is:

On the night of July 27th, 2012, a huge prank was pulled in New York City and this is the video of what took place. Brett Cohen came up with a crazy idea to fool thousands of pedestrians walking the streets of Times Square into thinking he was a huge celebrity, and it worked! Not only did it work, it caused quite a stir. This social experiment, of sorts, makes a profound statement about how modern culture is so attracted to pop culture, without any real credibility needed.

He dressed up like a typical celebrity and was accompanied by an entourage of two professional bodyguards, two assistants, and photographers pretending to be paparazzi. While the assistants and photographers waited for Brett to exit the 49th street marquee at NBC Studios, they started a buzz that a “big star” was about to walk out, thus making it worth their while to wait and get a picture. Many asked the crew whom Brett was, and no answer was given. They were forced to either make something up, or just take a picture with him in hopes that their Facebook friends or Twitter followers might have a better idea.

As the crew walked over to Times Square, the crowds around Brett grew on each consecutive block. Very few people even questioned who he was, where he was from, or what he does. Brett took pictures with nearly 300 people before the stunt ended. The video even includes interviews with people who had just taken a picture with Brett, and puts them in an awkward position when they’re asked questions such as, “Where do you know Brett from?” and “What’s your favorite movie he was in?” Many of them were overwhelmingly excited over Brett’s walk through Times Square, and it showed.

Is it this easy to fool people these days? Oh my… =P

EXO’s Kris Prepares For A Trip To Hawaii At SMTOWN World Tour III In Seoul

Standard

Kris dressed up for a trip to Hawaii
(Credit: To the rightful owner)

This is the first thought that came into my mind. Kris is preparing a trip to Hawaii. His vibrant pink tank top and the colorful flowers around his neck give a summery feel. All that is missing is a flower in his hair.

Kris: *wears flowers around neck* “Ladies and gentlemen, I am going to Hawaii…It was a great concert. I shall see you all soon.” *waves at the audience*

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kris is secretly from Hawaii =P Just kidding! If he was going on a trip to Hawaii, I wonder if he would take Tao, who he seems to be very close to, as indicated by the picture of a little panda on his top:

Cute panda on Kris‘ top (I have a warm hat with that panda face that I bought two months back =P)
(Credit: To the rightful owner)

Or whether he would take Chanyeol, who seems to look like SponegeBob in his yellow top next to his close friend Patrick aka Kris, on the trip.

(Credit: 高级EXO酱专治老缠)

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Kris and Chanyeol!

I’ve noticed that Kris has been wearing pink quite frequently. Does he really want me to create a post stating, “EXO‘s Kris Rocks the Color Pink”? =P

Kris and Jessica at the ending ceremony of the SMTOWN concert in Seoul
(Credit: BeiBei – Kris‘ well-known photographer xD)

Ooooh, Kris and Jessica sitting in a tree… Hahaha, just kidding! Jessica was interacting with other SMTOWN artists as well. When I see fans react to such interactions, I remember children in kindergarten that would tease someone if they saw him/her hanging around with somebody of the opposite gender xD Tsk tsk tsk.

Other than that, Kris putting the flower wreath around Jessica‘s neck reminds me of the round string of flowers the bride and groom place around each others’ necks in Indian weddings xD I’m sorry, but that is the picture that immediately came into my mind. I do admit, I was slightly jealous. Not at Jessica or Kris, but at the scene itself (even though it’s not part of my culture) =P

On a side note, it’s amusing how several people are fascinated by Kris‘ “camera-detecting skills.” All one has to do while walking through a crowd with cameras everywhere is to simply choose one or two cameras to stare at or lock eyes with. It is not rocket science, my friends =P You don’t have to be a genius to do this.

Kris observing his surroundings at the opening flag ceremony in SMTOWN Seoul
(Credit: As mentioned in the pic.)

Kris: “It is rocket science.” *sings* “Selected VIP wouldn’t it be mind-blowingly awesome. Now we’re on a rock rock rocket, just gotta keep your seat belt fastened” Hahaha! Looking at Kris‘ hair in the picture, it seems as though his hair stylists like to experiment with it a lot. I wonder how much gel and hairspray has been used from his debut days until now.

There isn’t a lot of news on EXO at the moment. Good…we all need a break anyways. Maybe Kris is enjoying his time in Hawaii right now =P Nah, I’m sure he and his 11 gege/brothers are preparing for their comeback, which many fans are anticipating.

I love teasing Dui Zhang! xD Teehee! ^^

When I Pay Attention to Detailed Patterns…

Standard

Sometimes I like to draw random patterns. I usually like adding a lot of details in the patterns or shapes that I make. It has always been this way since I was young. In other words, it’s not about shading or pencil strokes for me, but more about the details in the patterns.

I started on this a few months back when I was taking a break from an assignment. I haven’t completed it yet, but I was planning on filling up the entire page and perhaps adding color to it too. Adding color would definitely make this picture much nicer!

Having said this, I love clothes that contain fancy patterns with colorful details. As long as the print is not too big and is balanced out between big and small shapes, I would definitely buy such printed clothes. Some of my friends tell me that I often wear clothes with flower prints on them. I feel like flower prints give clothes a more feminine touch.

My blog’s theme is an example of something that contains detailed colorful patterns and shapes xD
